The 6th Grade class will be taking their handbook quiz on Thursday, Aug 21 during Appy Hour. We went over what to study today during Reading/English and they highlighted the most important parts of the student handbook. We do this to make sure they know what is expected of them coming into 6th grade. We know it's a big change leaving the elementary and coming into the middle school! The students have 2 days to study for it and they know it IS for a grade.

Welcome back to school!! Thank you so much for visiting our classroom webpage. I have created this website as a tool to communicate with students and parents. I will be continuously updating my blog and have different information reguarding important dates, academics, and special activities in my classroom. Enjoy your visit and welcome to 6th grade!!

About Me
- Courtney Castor
- I'm very excited to be a part of the teaching staff here on the black team at OMS!! This will be a great year, I have a TON of great things planned :) When I'm not at school, you might catch me at a Cardinal's Game, doing some retail therapy, or relaxing with a good book. My best friend of 7 years and boyfriend of 2 years, Chris, has supported me throughout college and my pursuit to be in the classroom. I can't wait to start the year, and hope I can inspire kids they can make a difference.

First Day of 6th Grade
To MUCH surprise...my first day of teaching went extraordinarily well!! I have been having dreams that it would be mass chaos....but I can honestly say I loved every minute of it and I have a FANTASTIC and very well behaved group of kids (thanks parents!)
I thought I'd post an activity I did with my Social Studies classes the first day. I had 3 different poster boards hung on the chalkboard. I had written on them "My goal for Social Studies is...", "Our classroom should be _______ everyday", and "What will Ms. Castor need to do to help you this year?" I gave each of my 3 social studies classes different colored sticky notes to correspond with their class and had them write the answers on them. Then they hung it up accordingly. I did this for pure self enrichment on how to better help my students succeed. I didn't share their answers with each other and got some pretty good ones!! This of course was a Pinterest idea and ended up very colorful and helpful :)
After 2 days of being at school....I think I finally know all of my homebase students names. I wouldn't trade any of them for the world...I sure hope the rest of the week is as fantastic as these first few days!

Open Tabs..
Hello and welcome to my classroom webpage!! It is still July, but I'm continuously working to get things for my first classroom set up, printed off, and organized. I've explained to some people that being a first year teacher is like this: imagine your web browser open with a ton of different tabs going at once. That's how my mind feels when it comes to school starting. I have to do lists for my to do lists. In the next few weeks, I will be bringing my supplies to school and getting my room set up to prepare for open house which is on August 13th from 5-7 pm @ OMS. I hope I have a great turnout with parents and my students!! I have a TON of papers to get printed off, and I'm sure a lot of cleaning up to do in my classroom! It will all be worth it when it's done...but it sure can be a stressful time until then. In these last few weeks before school starts, I will be posting some need to know things for back to school! Hope everyone has a great rest of their summer! :)
-Ms. Castor
